Cingular Wireless Re-Releases 2125 Smartphone

January 18th, 2006

Cingular 2125Cingular Wireless today announced the release of the 2125 Smartphone; which is quite odd since it was originally released on December 11th. The 2125 Smartphone (aka the HTC Faraday) replaces the Audiovox SMT5600 in Cingular’s line of Windows Mobile handhelds and is the first Smartphone handset in the U.S. to offer Windows Mobile 5.0.

The Cingular 2125 Smartphone gives our customers a cost-effective, feature-packed solution that meets their needs, whether they’re a larger company engaged in global business communications or an individual wanting a superior, high-speed e-mail and Web browsing experience. It comes with the latest innovations to the Windows Mobile operating environment built in. This sets the stage for Cingular to bring to market later this year a new and eagerly anticipated addition to its industry-leading e-mail portfolio, the Microsoft Messaging and Security Feature Pack featuring direct push e-mail technology.

Cingular 2125 features include:

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition
  • Quad band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • 1.3 Mega-Pixel camera
  • Bluetooth 1.2
  • Windows Media Player 10 Mobile
  • TI OMAP 850 200 MHz Processor
  • 2.2″ QVGA 64K Color TFT Screen
  • mini-SD expansion card

Cingular Wireless was to release the 8125 (aka HTC Wizard) PDA style Windows Mobile 5.0 handheld in December as well, but has still not yet surfaced. The 8125 has been receiving some mixed reviews since it is supported by an underpowered processor; a possible cause to the delay in release. The Cingular 2125 Smartphone is available for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement.
