Motorola Reports a Stop Ship for V3 RAZR
March 10th, 2006
Motorola has requested a Stop Ship of certain productions of the popular V3 Razr. At this point Motorola has identified an issue in GSM only V3’s (Cingular and T-Mobile) manufactured after February 1st. Replacement V3’s will start arriving in distribution centers Friday, March 10, 2006.
Motorola notified us they have a quality issue in the latest batch of Motorola RAZRs (all colors) that have been in our inventory since Feb. 1st. Approximately 20-30% of these devices may have a faulty component, which could prematurely cause calls to disconnect. It is important to note this issue does not affect RAZRs purchased from inventory prior to Feb 1st.
UPDATED (3/14/2006): Continued below…
We have received a lot of email and concerns about the notification sent by Motorola. The notification sent by Motorola is only for GSM version of the RAZR (T-Mobile and Cingular). Verizon and other CDMA versions are not affected by this notification. This is NOT a Recall; this is simply an advisory of a very small percentage of devices shipped from February 1st. Motorola had determined that 20-30% of devices shipped during that small time frame may of included a faulty component that may cause dropped calls. Those affected would have noticed the issue from the time of purchase and are advised to contact there provider or retailer for further assistance if they feel they may have a faulty device. Currently retailers and online vendors have inventory of replacement V3 RAZR handsets if needed.

so what exactly is the recall? What is faulty about the phone? Is it similar to the 1st generation V3 recall?

I have a V3 that was purchased on January 9th of 06. This phone drops calls at random and shuts itself down at random as well. Are you sure that this phone is not affected by the same issue as others purchased after February 1, 06?

Though what you have described does not sound acceptable it is not part of the notification sent from Motorola. I would suggest contacting your provider and request a replacement.
