Helio Unveils Gaming Service

Helio announced today plans for a new gaming service. The youth-oriented MVNO is touting the service as a first-of-its-kind which will allow gamers to share favorite games with other Helio members.
The game service also offers Helio members a suite of custom tools, including animated previews of in-game footage for titles, “cheat codes” free-of-charge for purchased games, a “wish-list” function that allows users to catalog favorite games for purchase later and a “download locker” for free-of-charge re-downloads of purchased games.
Last week, Helio inked a deal with Yahoo!, which will make a host of Yahoo! services available to Helio customers. The agreement will give Helio’s 3G customers access to Yahoo! Search, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger.
Helio is a joint venture between EarthLink and SK Telecom, which will operate on Sprint Nextel’s network at launch. The service will target 18- to 32-year-olds and is expected to launch this spring.
