Cingular Powers HSDPA in New York City

June 29th, 2006

Cingular Releases HSDPA in New York CityCingular Wireless has turned on HSDPA coverage in the New York City and eastern New Jersey regions. With the release Cingular is now offering the Samsung ZX10 in HSDPA compatible regions.

According to coverage maps on Cingular’s Web site, the service covers much of Manhattan plus parts of Brooklyn and Queens and an area surrounding the JFK International Airport. Other parts of the region with current UMTS/HSDPA coverage include White Plains, N.Y. and a section of New Jersey near the Newark International Airport.

At this time 3G coverage in New York City is limited to regions surrounding major airports to support Cingular’s business class travelers. The map can be a bit deceiving; as a reminder current 3G coverage is limited to the dark blue regions. Complete HSPDA coverage maps are available here.
