Verizon Wireless surged in second quarter customer growth, adding 1.8 million new subscribers. The influx of new customers is helping the No. 2 U.S. wireless carrier gain on No. 1 Cingular Wireless.
The carrier’s latest quarterly customer results bring the company to a subscriber base of 54.8 million. Verizon is heralding its additions as the eighth consecutive quarter in which it has attracted at least 1.5 million new customers.
Verizon still trails Cingular by more than 2 million customers. Last week, Cingular said it added 1.5 million new customers during the second quarter, bringing its subscriber base total to 57.3 million.
