Mobile ESPN to Cease Service
September 29th, 2006The Walt Disney Company announced today plans to cease service of its sports-themed wireless venture dubbed Mobile ESPN. Sales of new handsets and service have been suspended immediately.
Thank you for your support of Mobile ESPN. We have been proud to provide fans like you the best wireless sports content experience. We have, however, decided to change the direction of Mobile ESPN. As of December 31, 2006, Mobile ESPN will cease its wireless service provider operations and work to deliver our content experience through another nationwide carrier. Until that time, you will continue to receive Mobile ESPN’s voice and data services, as well as complete billing and customer care support.
The announcement will have no impact on Disney Mobile, a separate start-up phone venture that launched in the U.S. earlier this year.
