Cingular to Support Apple iPhone, the secret is out…
January 10th, 2007
Cingular Wireless and Apple officially announced today support for the new iPhone from Apple Inc. (yep, Apple dropped the word “computer†from their name as well). The announcement of the iPhone should not come as a major surprise to most users, since rumors of the iPhone have been brewing for over a year. Apple had done a wonderful job of keeping information leeks to a minimum to avoid over hyping the iPhone.
The iPhone will offer a full touch display with a built in proximity sensor to turn off the screen when the phone is close to your face (a very nice feature indeed). Backed by OS X the iPhone will be support Widgets, Google Maps, Safari as well as iTunes.
Apple iPhone features include:
- 2.0 megapixel camera
- 3.5-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE – 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (sorry no 3G here)
- Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
- Dimensions 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches
- Weight 4.8 ounces
iPhone will be available in the U.S. beginning in June 2007 in a 4GB model for $499 and an 8GB model for $599, and will work in combination with Apple’s iTunes running on either a PC or Mac.
