Nortel Transforms TV into Home Communications Environment

February 28th, 2007

Nortel will show how the television can be transformed into a compelling and easy-to-use home communications environment with Nortel IPTV services and solutions at IPTV World Forum, March 5 to 7 in London.

Nortel will demonstrate how real-time multimedia and entertainment services can be converged onto the TV to improve the user experience by providing greater control over the home communications environment. This blending of VoIP, instant messaging, multimedia messaging services and presence services through Nortel’s IPTV offering will create new business potential for operators.

Visitors to Nortel’s booth at IPTV World Forum can view a range of solutions for the IPTV industry including: next-generation TV applications and new feature-rich middleware products capable of blending TV entertainment with voice and multimedia services. Service providers will be able to see how they can use these solutions to generate new offerings to attract and retain customers, drive an increase in service margins, and enhance revenues.

During IPTV World Forum, Nortel intends to announce a new relationship for developing advanced communications services that will exist in and around the TV, including interaction with devices such as mobile and fixed-line phones and personal computers. The objective of this collaboration is to enable the integration of Nortel’s voice and multimedia features into the TV environment to deliver a unique user experience.

“Nortel is focused on creating exciting new services through the convergence of communications and entertainment,” said George Riedel, chief strategy officer, Nortel. “We’re enriching the TV experience for the next-generation of users by combining Nortel technologies with those of leading video providers to create a whole new set of IPTV applications.”
